Cat litter stinks -driving me NUTS!!!!
Comments (26)I have 4 cats. Everyone is amazed at the lack of odor. You can't even tell that I have them (ok, there *is* some fur on the couch) :-) I have 4 litterboxes. I use Swheat Scoop litter, and I remove the clumps every other day, and clean the entire box every 2 months (please never use ammonia for this). I've had cats for 38 years & Swheat Scoop works the best to control the odor. In the past, when I have fed medium-quality foods lke Iam's, Science Diet, etc, their poop was MUCH stinkier. Now that they eat a commercial prepared healthy raw diet - zero smell! It's so odd. Please don't even consider feeding anyone that junk they sell in the supermarket. One look at the label with prove that - fillers like corn, wheat hulls, flour, sugar - it's ridiculous what some companies get away with putting a bag & calling "food". Think about a wild feline - do they eat corn? Flour? No! They hunt, and eat meat. I highly recommend a raw diet, and a better cat litter. Think about what you eat & how it affects you. The same goes for your pets. Cats make wonderful pets & wonderful friends. They deserve the best you can afford! :-) As far as any mess outside the box, again, having cats for 38 years, the absolute best product I have found is Simple Solution. I had a senior kitty who had a lot of accidents...daily...and in my *living room*. Oh boy! However, Simple Solution completely got rid of the smell. It's an enzyme which literally *eats* the urine, so it's 100% gone!...See MoreMy Toto Aquia III Install Experience
Comments (7)Last week I replaced an existing toilet with an Aquia II. This was the first time I've ever installed a toilet and it took less than 3 hours total, including removal of the old toilet; removing, cleaning and re-installing the 1/2 threaded supply nipple; and drilling 4 holes in the marble floor tiles for the mounting cleats. The only confusing part was Toto included the wrong installation manual with the toilet bowl. The included manual was for an Aquia I, which uses a very different interface between the bowl and toilet flange. I realized this when looking at the "included parts list" in the manual compared to what was in the box and the part number on the toilet bowl. I downloaded the correct Aquia II install manual from Toto's webite. Another complication was that the old toilet was grouted to the floor. I had to scrape/chip this grout off of the marble tile. Aquia II works great and we've already bought a second one to install in another bathroom....See MoreNo garbage disposal is driving me nuts
Comments (8)Marie: I have a powerful Kitchen Aid batch feed disposal and to tell you the truth, I don't use it much at all. Now since it's there I do run it once every two or three days to clear the gunk so the dishwasher drains properly, but for the most part, it stands unused. But I can let bits and pieces of food slide down. I also have a prep sink, and that has no disposal and that's where we do most of our peeling, pasta draining, etc. It is a little more work to collect the leftovers under these circumstances. But really it's just a matter of adapting your food prep and cleaning styles. Once you're used to a new routine, it won't take more than a few seconds to work in the kitchen. Use a rubber spatula to scrap food into your trash as you clear the table. Get a coffee can for grease and keep it in your freezer. When you are cleaning a greasey pan, drain the grease into the coffee can and then return it to the freezer. When it fills up, throw it away right before you carry the garbage to the big can outside. Maybe one of those step-on gargbage cans would work best for you. Look at the Container Store's website, then go to Walmart and buy the affordable version. Good luck!...See Morenew septic systems humming is driving me batty
