Since it's a private road the rules may be different but in my experience, there has to be a set back for fencing, meaning you would not be allowed to place it right at the edge of the road. If that's the rule in your area as well then not sure how to 'protect' the mulched area.

I live on the inside of a curve. Trucks run over it constantly. The ground is sunken and the only thing that grows is weeds. It infuriates me because the rest of my property is well kept.

I put those red reflectors on metal,posts along that spot. It helps, although there are those who run right over them. It does make my blood boil but they only cost a few dollars and I can replace them.

Maybe some big rocks? I see that a lot around here.

I was also going to suggest big rocks. It won't be DIY but you won't have any upkeep and won't have to worry about damage.

Yeah the big rocks were too expensive and I want to be able to remove them easily when necessary. Also, I don't really like the way they look. I like singular rocks but not a row of them.

One Big Rock is 300 and I need 20.

How do you feel about spacing out a few groups of three rocks? One large and two small. It won't solve your inability to move them but they may be easier to work around.

Personally I would not do barbed wire but instead would do wire mesh fencing attached to the same metal fence stakes. They come in sheets precut or on a roll and you determine the stake spacing you prefer. Inexpensive, available at big box home stores or Tractor Supply if you have that in your area.

Actually I want this to be a temporary situation maybe 2 years at the most and so the rocks don't really work for that. I want to be able to remove it myself when it's time. I know the rocks are popular, however I don't particularly care for rocks when they're not used in a landscape that looks like they're not supposed to be there.

I like rocks when they look like a natural part of the landscape and have always been there.

And hey! This is supposed to be inexpensive! Don't tell me anything less than the gut of a kitchen is the only thing that's acceptable when I want a minimal renovation LOL

I would worry that minimalist fencing like posts with wire will be difficult for the trucks to see and will likely get run over as regularly as your mulch is being run over now because it won't be visible. If you could do large boulders somewhat spaced out, that would probably work. They don't have to be touching eachother.

We bought the short green wire fencing with posts from Home Depot. Easy to put up and cheap. We just needed to keep 15 pound dog out of a ditch.

You will want the taller and it comes in green, black, and silver. You could also buy the orange stuff contractors uses that is fabric, if you do not care how it looks.

You do not need hardwire cloth, that is expensive.

Rocks and boulders are out not happening. Typically we don't have trucks at night. And I can make the top white part of the post. Reflective. I don't know. I'm just still considering everything but the rocks are a no-go. I really appreciate everybody's thoughts!

What about split rail fence? That would be fairly low effort overall and easy to repair if someone does run over it. And far more visible than wire.

You don't even have to run it along the entire property if there are specific areas where the trucks seem to lose the road.

Get some stakes installed and run that bright yellow police tape along the area.... (ducking and running now...). Not attractive, but certainly visible night or day. Actually, I like the look of the split rail a la pricklypearcactus.

I really appreciate everybody's ideas and I do like the wooden fences. Although I'm not going to cement anything in. It feels like I have to have ugly so I won't be heartbroken LOL.

I 2nd Pricklypearcactus. That's my cheap solution...and it's not ugly....or dangerous....

We use "Post & Rail" fencing around here. It's cheap. It's sturdy. No cement. Will last 20 years. Do you have a "Big R", ranch supply store? It's about $16 for a post, $13 for a rail. I maintain about 3 miles of it.

If trucks are hitting the mulch, theyll likelikely hit the fence, too too. will you repair or replace it every time it gets wrecked? is this a diy job?

I used some of that mesh in a garden years ago, and two lizards got caught in it and died. I removed it immediately and will never use it again. Apparently it kills many beneficial critters.

I'm still considering everything but what I'm leaning towards right now are the green posts with the white top and three layers or stripes of wire that isn't barbed. That would make it easy for me to continue to mulch the area and weed eat the ditch.

The vast majority of people will see the fence and avoid the area. Those who don't would take down a nice horse fence anyway. So if this is hit it would be easy to fix. Again, this is a fairly temporary thing and once all the homes are finished I'm thinking 2 years then I will take it all down.

The cattle panels are too hard to get through and around. I'm not really sure what kind of mesh you're talking about in regards to lizards, but the only type of mesh fencing I was thinking was more chicken wire. Anyway. I don't use any netting anywhere.

However, I'm still considering rocks and I'm going to be looking around for those. My drive to work everyday is through 20 miles of the country and I see quite a few areas that use rocks effectively but ugly.
