CRaftsman Mower fires up - but won't keep running
Comments (8)If the carburetor has the round bowl on the bottom of the carburetor, til the mower up so the carburetor is on the high side. Then remove the bolt that holds the round bowl on it. try not to let the bowl fall down, although a rolled up rag will keep it relatively in place. Look at the bolt you took out. Look for a teeny hole in the area of the threads, or in the smooth shank of the bolt. Clean this hole with a fine wire, shoot some carb cleaner thru it, then clean out the larger hole in that bolt, and blow thru the bolt. Then reassemble the bowl and bolt, turn the mower wheels down, wait several minutes, then try it. It should start and run!...See MoreCraftsman mower 917.376061 won't keep running
Comments (5)Well, you brought up the possibility of a high oil level. I'm not sure why you feel it's difficult to tell. Just check it after it's sat overnight, before you start cranking on it. A leaking needle/seat in the carb can allow the gas to drain through into the crankcase. Chances are your original problem was that the main jet just needed the holes cleaned out. It's the "brass nut" holding the carb bowl on....See Morehomelite string trimmer won't run after washing
Comments (6)I do some guessing starting off with NO spark? Did you bump the ign switch? look for disconnected wire or faulty switch (on or off switch just like house light switch) either it on or off can check using mulitmeter across the connections of the switch). Did you mess with the spark plug??? Check the gap. lay removed plug on head connected to the spark plug wire, switch to on and pull the rope. With the spark plug grounding against the head (touching) and the switch on You shoud see Blue spark if you pull the rope fast enough???? I bet it getting spark but no gas. Try priming it with carb. cleaner (providing you are not flooding it (spark plug would be wet??? if wet it won't fire) either directly into the cylinder bore (through the spark plug hole or down the carb venturi (hole in the carb.) As suggested above need alot more information and condition (plug wet or not, plug gap good, ign switch good, priming, and anything else you can think of???)...See MoreStihl Chainsaw - starts but won't run
Comments (78)My 1997 Stihl TS 510 Brazilian made cut off saw (same metal base as a chainsaw, carb's a Tillotson) ran well for 10 minutes, then lost power if under load, but would spin up if not under load and sound ok, but bog down again if loaded. So, I replaced the ignition coil with Stihl part and it coughed once after a couple pulls but didn't start, then I have a very short shot of ether, ran for .5 second, then, no more signs of starting. Pulled carb, looked at hoses, cleaned carb with brake cleaner, diaphragms look good, it ran a second on first pull, then no coughs, nothing. The upper seal on the carb, just below air filter is not completely torn, but is thin and tattered. There is a very small gas leak, a few drips around the hose attachment onto the big rubber fitting that pushes with some effort into the metal hole the hoses run through to the gas tank. IDK if the Tillotson is original, or the last guy had problems? I took the hoses off, blew through them, no visible issues. I think it's a fuel issue. What's my next move?...See MoreBumblebeez SC Zone 7
