I need a new washing machine....help!
Comments (8)I recommend looking on the laundry forum, there are lots of threads discussing the differences and (dis)advantages of both FLs and TLs. CR found that due to the new EPA energy regulations, traditional TLs don't perform as good anymore as they used to (did they really ever do good???). To save energy a lot of washers now use lower temperatures on the warm and hot cycle or do cold rinses instead of warm ones. I am German and grew up with FLs. My personal experience is that they do clean better or at least as well as TLs. They are a lot gentler on clothes (no tearing of clothes or wrapping them all around an agitator). They need a lot (up to 75%) less water than traditional TLs (hence less energy for heating up the water as well). The main disadvantages are longer cycle time, possible vibration problems on a wooden floor and the higher initial cost. IMHO, it's well worth it though. Ãf for some reason I wouldn't be able to get a FL, I would choose one of the new HE TLs (like the Whirlpool Cabrio). They are pretty expensive too, though, and still need about double the amount of water a FL needs. I subscribed to the CR website and I can give you the ratings on some specific washers once you have narrowed down your choices. There is a forum on their website that you can access without subscription. You can't post questions unless you subscribe though. Hope this helps! Comments (20)Thanks!! Well, after much thought and research this weekend, I'm sold on the Miele's and fine with the small capacity. I've learned a lot here, so thank you all! Now I am just making sure that there is anything so special about the little giants vs their new W1 and T1. From the calls I've made today, it seems people were mostly buying the little giants because that was the biggest they could buy for home use, and that reason now goes away with the W1T1. They do handle a bigger work load and should last longer, but that won't be important to me, considering the cost savings of not getting them. It seems the best feature of the Little giants was to add more water, but I'm just going by what I read and really have no knowledge about the subject. The little giants would have solved my layout problems because the door swing worked better for us, so you are right Rocogurl, but because spending 2k more for two washers to solve my problem seems crazy, I'm going to alter the laundry room design. We were only at the shop drawing stage. We have a drain in the room for a sink and another for the washer, so I'll look at some configurations that will work within those parameters. Nothing will be perfect, but the room was never great anyway. So, it looks like 2 W1's and 1 T1. I don't want to stack them because I hate bending, so I am hoping to find room to put them side by side and on a platform. While a 2nd dyer seems nice, Im thinking the dryer is much bigger than the washer, so we can probably wash two loads and put both in the dryer. I don't dry things with elastics to help the longevity, BUT, because the heat pump dryer is supposed to be so much more gentle, I'm wondering if I'll wind up drying a lot more than I currently do. My clothes are not so special, but I just like my things to last. Any thoughts on if the new dryer will replace hang dry? That was a mouth full !!!...See MoreMiele W1 Washing Machine- Too small?
Comments (31)You can use bleach the problem is that the slot in the pull out drawer where you put the bleach does not get flushed into the washer during the main wash. It is a software bug. the work around is to add the bleach to the main detergent slot after the washer does it’s first flush of that drawer. You only get a couple minutes to do it, but thst is a work around. Most people who switch to oxygen bleach dont go back to chlorine bleach. OB could be Optical Brighteners or Oxygen Bleach. Optical Brighteners are chemicals that reflect only certain colors of visible light. This tricks your eyes to thinking things are white. They do nothing to actually clean clothes. Many people have allergies to optical brightening chemicals and they are usually considered an environmental pollutant....See Moreli_ry83
