AnnieDeighnaugh, I would also like to know what brand you went with. Was it glued down directly to the floor and what subfloor was it glued to? I wonder if I did decide to go with hardwood floors again, if hand-scraped would be less slippery? I have three little dogs and two of them are having problems walking on my floor. The smallest one has no problems and is not afraid of the floor but the other two keep slipping and need to walk right next to something to feel safer in case they slip.

Hello Folks, We are testing out some hardwood floor stains & finishes on a section of our white oak floors before embarking on the larger project. In the first photo below, we applied 1 layer of Minwax pre-stain wood conditioner followed by 2 layers of Minwax oil-based stain (natural 209), let it dry for 3 days then applied 2 layers of Bona Traffic HD in satin and left it to dry overnight. In checking on it in the morning, we noticed areas that became "dandelion yellow" (circled in the photo below) as noted by SJ McCarthy and wanted to know if this an artifact of not applying a sealant after staining/prior to adding the Bona Traffic HD. Any thoughts on how to avoid this? Would applying a sealant prior to the water-based Bona Traffic HD prevent the yellowing? If so, what Bona sealant would you advise using? The second photo underwent an identical process except we only applied 1 layer of the Minwax oil-based stain (natural 209) and observed minimal yellowing. Don't know what to make of that. We'd like to use the combination of the Minwax product and the Bona Traffic HD so any advice on how to prevent the yellowing would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. We have unfinished Santos Mahogany floors that we will have finished with Bona Traffic. I would like a little more shine than the satin, but not as much as the semi-gloss. (My refinisher has recommended against mixing the two.) According to the Bona web site, the Bona Traffic Anti-Slip has a sheen level between the satin and semi-gloss, which would be perfect. Does anyone have experience with the Bona Traffic Anti-Slip? Are there any noticeable differences, problems or warnings with this product? Thanks in advance.

We did wood laminate floors and were advised to do hardwoods on the stairs because the wood laminates don't last as well on the smaller surface of a step. The wood laminate is a floating floor system and the small size of a step doesn't have much room to float/give....I don't work in the industry; this is just was what I was told when I put my kitchen floor in last summer. The guy who put in the wood laminate didn't really want to deal with building out the hardwood steps and the cost elsewhere made me reconsider....we are now doing carpet on those steps because the other room is carpet and really, really needs replaced.
