Comments (16)that fringe tree photo helps me remember the one i had to leave behind in n.c. it was only 4 years old and in it's glory when we moved away to ca. it never leafed out until mid-june so i made sure to tell the new owners to just wait, it isn't dead, and it will be well worth the wait. i sure hope they did. i'm glad yours is thriving along with the rest of your beautiful gardens. min...See MoreEarly Spring plants and a couple to ID
Comments (13)I wasn't sure what butterfly that it was! Thanks for the ID Roselee...it has that dark smudge in the middle but that was hard to capture in the wind. Jim, the ajuga is in filtered sun under oak trees. In a couple weeks it will be almost full shade. The 'beards' are falling and leaves are not far behind. I spent most of the day weeding the cactus garden...chickweed, crabgrass, horseherb (wish it blended with cactus better) and tons of the clover stuff that form burrs. My back aches :-) On the upside, I found 15 tiny mexican feather grass volunteers! I love free plants! I am not one to spend much money on plants and the mama was $7.50 so the babies are really a blessing! I love that garden and only water it once a month when it's hot....See MoreSpring blooms and spring chickies...
Comments (17)The first time one of them did that.. laying down on her side, it kinda freaked me out. They do it to sunbathe, dust bathe, and to cool down when it's hot. They look like dorks. Here's Gertie and some of the other girls when they were about 6mos old Here's Josephine with the cute little white silkies I had when we first started getting chickens. It was so funny how she was their protector and one day they just lay down and one of them kinda gave her a hug! Not sure if it was the make or female. Had to re-home them because we can't have roosters. He was crowing a LOT and always trying to get with Gertie. The silkies are banties, so they're about half the size of the other chickies. Couldn't see keeping the female since they both were chased and pecked at relentlessly by the other girls....See Moresherrygirl zone5 N il
