Comments (10)Ok on the 2nd pic posted It almost looks like peaking on the seam. It is where the seam raises by law of physics and will give off a different reflection on the peak...It will go away. On the last pic, I do not like what I see. It almost looks like two different carpets lying there. This is either from installer laying the product in the wrong direction with one of the pieces or some type of reverse pile direction, which would be a manufacturer problem. It is a phenomenon that occasionally happens where a carpet takes on a different pile direction during the roll. It happens to us maybe once every 3 years. If that is the case karastan should replace it. We sell karastan, they are owned by Mohawk and are a good company. It now looks like a textured instead of a multi color. That carpet should seam up to where you have to hunt for it. I agree with you now, something does not look right to me. That last picture convinces me, although pictures can be deceiving...it really does look like two different dye lots laying there and I am sure that is not the case. They can test it to make sure the installer did not turn the carpet. It would be rare, but it actually looks like that. If not it is a pile direction issue and they will try steam it to get the pile standing up straight which may eliminate it. Either way..someone has to do something for you. Keep posting. Comments (3)It's always such a disappointment when things don't go exactly as planned. I hope that your brother and SIL are able to get things resolved to their satisfaction. It's hard to say without pictures, not knowing what the layout of the kitchen is, what granite is being used, etc. A reputable fabricator will generally try to do their best with seams...they generally don't like them any more than we do. As for location of the seam - most of the time, reputable fabricators will do the best they can to put it in an area that won't be highly visible. But, sometimes due to moving the stone and the weaknesses in the slab where cutouts are placed, they will put a seam in a place that *we* wouldn't. We discussed seams with our fabricator before selecting our fabricator and she warned us that we might wind up with a seam in a place were we would rather not. Sometimes the nature of the movement of the slab means that swirls can't be matched up very well. Comments (7)I was prepared for something really bad given your description. That isn’t it. That is not bad at all! Once you get your coffee machine and everything else on the counters, you will never notice a slight color change. The rest of the granite has some sections that have almost equal color shifts. As I mentioned earlier, your fabricator's biggest mistake was not properly setting your expectations. I am a contractor with several decades experience in the countertop industry. I would never have put myself in such a position with a client. I remain dumbfounded at the crap the natural stone industry gets away with and the decades-long excusemaking for them by customers who have fallen in love with a particular stone, no matter its suitability as a countertop. 13 days agoI agree that a soft white colour is likely to look good with your counters. But that doesn't mean you are stuck with your only choice being a subway tile. There are so many shapes and patterns available.
Have a look at Tilebar website. They have lots of options and ideas. You can order sample bundles or you can get 5 samples for $5. You need to see the tiles in your space with your lighting to make a good choice. Some of the pictures below are from the Tilebar Nabi line - several options for shapes and colours.
If you have some good tile stores in your area, take a small sample of your counter and bring home some ideas - don't try to pick in the store where the lighting will be different that your home.
The pictures show the shape and pattern, not necessarily the colour that would be appropriate.
Once you've chosen your tiles, then the grout colour is the next choice. You can come back to Houzz for guidance or ask your tile store for recommendations.

13 days agoOh I should post what the other counter tops look like from the other slab...I wish they would have taken a section from the 2nd slab to match up better. Maybe they couldn't? Either way I really wish we were at the templating , HOWEVER did not realize this was even an option as we were never told. I guess I'll need to get used to it now🤷🤔
